I just scribbled this down and thought I’d post it. A little bit of story for you fictionphiles out there. No real depth to it, just sort of visceral if you ask me.
Dream sequence?
Blood was pounding in my ears as I clawed my way through the dirt. Wet soil stuck to my eyes, stinging and blurring my vision. It clung to my mouth, slowly working its way down my throat. My fingernails sunk deep into the earth as i finally pulled myself to the top of the hill.
The sky was black, the sun permanently obscured by smoke. In the distance came the sound of dull, repetitive thunder. Flashes of light and fire barely revealed the world around me. I could hear the muffled moans of the dying, as their life sadly seeped from their lungs. Shakily I stood to my feet and attempted to walk.
The ground was cold and damp against my bare feet. An acrid wind arose and raked my skin; the smell of sulfur burned my nostrils. Through the nebulous haze I thought I saw a figure. Dark and terrible, it towered over the helpless bodies that struggled to escape it.
Before I could move, it saw me. I tried to hide, tried to run. It bounded towards me, its steps quickly outpaced my own. I dove back into the dirt but was held back. Cruel, indomitable arms grasped me. I heard a vicious growl as my frame was thrown wildly into the air. I flew, pell mell, out of control, the fearsome wind whipping at my face. I turned and the momentum pulled me down. The thunder pounded in my ears as the black earth rushed to greet me.

And to that I say… =P
